Enjoy Some Song, Friendship and Refreshment
At the suggestion of a neighbor, in place of our next monthly meeting, Monday, December 10th, we will go caroling. We will meet at the Washington’s at 6:30 pm which is at 1303 N. 45th and head out to carol our way thru the neighborhood. Turn your porch lights on for us. We have a route set which won’t be too long. If you know of someone who is in need of cheer, please give us their address so we can stop and serenade them. Don’t worry about voice lessons, this is just for fun and is followed by refreshments.
Martin Drive Neighborhood Blog
A blog is a web log or a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
With that said, the Martin Drive Neighborhood Blog is informative and it is a chronicle of what is happening in the neighborhood. There are two ways to access the blog. Visit the Martin Drive Neighborhood Website: www.martindrive.org or go directly to the blog: http://martindrive.blogspot.com/
Martin Drive Meeting Signs
Do you have a meeting sign in your possession? We are trying to gather up old signs, assess their condition, make sure we order enough signs to go around (one for every block) and order new flaps that have the location of the Senior Center. Please e-mail back if you have a sign in your possession.
Neighborhood Stores Have Extended Hours Thru the Holidays
Déjà vu Consignments will be open until 7 pm on Tues. Wed. and Thurs. in addition to the regular hours. Many other Vliet Street stores are open extended hours and additional days for your shopping ease. Did you know …? For every dollar spent at a locally owned business, 45 cents is returned to the community. For every dollar spent at a chain store, only 13 cents is returned to the local community. Support small local business! It will come back to you.

Scrabble Anyone?
We have a neighbor, Mary, who loves to play Scrabble. Do you share this interest? Mary is looking for people from the neighborhood that might want to play Scrabble and asked that we put the request out into the neighborhood to see if anyone wanted to meet for a round of Scrabble. If interested, contact Mary at 526-2742.
Whistling in the Dark, a novel by Lesley Kagen
This novel is the story of two sisters growing up on Vliet Street in the summer of 1959. The book has many references to Washington Park and local places and involves an intriguing mystery plot, loss of innocence as told through the eyes of imaginative, ten year old, Sally O’Malley. This book is Milwaukee. Samson the Gorilla and the Milwaukee Braves are in the story line. While the book has smatterings of biographical truths and characters and is a collection Lesley Kagen’s memories of childhood growing up near the historic Hi-Mount Boulevard District west of Washington Park the mystery plot is fictional.
To It’s Credit, Whistling in the Dark is:
A finalist for the Great Lakes Book Award
A Midwest Connections Pick
Italian, Taiwanese and German rights have been sold Has been on the Book Sense National Bestseller list and The Heartland Bestseller List for months
After traveling and living in New York and California, Lesley Kagen returned to the Midwest and now lives in Mequon with her family. In addition to being a published writer, she is an actress, voice-over talent, and the owner of Restaurant Hama, one of Milwaukee's top restaurants.
Don’t miss the opportunity to meet and chat with Lesley, one of our own, when she returns to Vliet Street.
